My work focuses a lot on shadows, and capturing that ephemeral quality that a shadow has.
With these etchings I wanted to highlight the opposite to shadows and by using photography I exposed the trees to capture the light instead of the darkness.
These etchings were inspired by these words from a hymn:
Let there be light
Where there is darkness
Let there be hope
When there is none
Let there be peace
In the midst of sorrow
Let there be love
To bring us back home
My etching work continued when creating work up at Dan Pearson & Huw Morgans garden. Huw had spoken to me about the ancient Japanese calendar of 72 micro seasons. Each season lasting about 5 days. I interpreted this in my own way by focusing on certain plants throughout the year at Dan and Huws garden. Bringing them into the spotlight by applying the same process I used for the beech leaves, of exposing their shape on to photography paper then exposing again onto a metal plate to create an etching. This will be an ongoing project over the many seasons.
